Michael

I was born, raised and have spent all my life in the Nashville area. During these 39 years I have tried many different sports and exercise agendas. Being athletic by nature I do not feel it is a coincidence I found Hot Yoga when I did. 3 years ago being out of shape and in a rut I decided to spend a year trying every kind of exercise available to me with the intent of finding something, anything that would work consistently for the rest of my life. Among everything I tried there was a Gentle Yoga class. Telling myself I wanted a little of the flexibility I had when I was young I made this class apart of my weekly regiment. Next I tried the Vinyasa class. By the end of the year I was going to every Yoga class I could get to at my gym. The gym closes its group classes occasionally for swim meets so I took the opportunity to try this “Hot Yoga” studio I pass every day heading to the gym. After 7 days of classes everyday I was hooked. The Yoga I was doing covered all my needs. Cardio, strength, and flexibility were all there. After a year and half I felt I needed to take things to another level. Then, Jimmy Barkan came to Nashville certifying teachers in his version of Ghosh lineage Yoga. I could not have been more blessed when I really needed a little luck. My questions have been answered and a path and been set. No going back now.

In concluding I got on a scale today 12-03-08, I think my scale is broke. I weighed 191 lbs. That’s 49 lbs. lost without any big diet plans! Who needs a gym?

Someone asked me a year ago a surprise question, “ What has Yoga done for you?” I answered without thinking, “ I don’t need half of what I used to need.” I think this is a perfect representation of what Yoga is to me, Simplicity. It simply works.

Namaste,

Michael Barrett
